Description

Since the dawn of time, the origins and practice of magic has been a mystery to most people. Although it is believed that it exists deep inside every living creature, it ever only awakens within a select few. Despite its fleeting nature, magic is still something that can be tamed, honed and mastered through proper study and training. While there have been persons with such strong magic in their veins that they could bend the laws of reality at a very early age, such true talent is very rare, and has proven immensely unstable and unpredictable, with most of these magic prodigies seldom living above the age of twenty five, when the magic seals itself to its bearer.

Others who wish to master their magic has to undergo long and arduous training at Crescent Island, located in the Sea of Sins which separates Dalmeria and Altea, and is home to the Arcane Auditorium, the only place in the world where magic is taught and trained. Its shores are closed by strong barriers of magic, preventing anyone from entering it unless their magic has already been awakened, and its secrets might never reach the outside world. For a mage to be truly accepted into the ranks and rise above the title of Novice, they have to make a pilgrimage to the Blue Mountain, and wash away their former life and sins in its healing springs.

The most common magic is Elemental Magic, or Elemí, the name it was once given by the Ur-Elves of Rútania. Magic scrolls, enchanted objects and other artifacts are common, whereas those dabbling in Necromancy and Blood Magic are shunned.

An Elemental Mage begins their training by receiving an orb which holds the very essence of the element that they wish to learn. Upon touching the orb, they connect their soul to the element itself in order to harness its abilities. This way, the orb becomes the mage's most precious belonging, and during the early stages of study, they are extremely vulnerable, and cannot be separated from the orb for any extended period of time. Doing so would result in excruciating pain and eventually death. The longer they train and the more they learn, this effect will diminish over time and make it possible for mage and orb to separate, but should the orb break at any moment during the long process of learning, its bearer would dissolve into oblivion. Countless mages and wizards have died due to freak accidents or foul play that resulted in the destruction of their orbs. The mage will carry the orb until they achieve true mastery, at which point they will be fully connected, and the orb will merge itself into their soul.

The road to true mastery of the elements is long and hard, and many hopeful mages have passed away before ever completing it. But those who do become powerful beyond belief, and a force that demands the utmost respect...
